Sayagyi U Ba Khin Tradition

The Burmese form of vipassana meditation as taught by Sayagyi U Ba Khin has many adherents amongst Buddhists and non-Buddhists. There are two major organisations that have a web presence and are led by direct disciples of U Ba Khin. Please note: Vipassana Fellowship is not connected with either of these organisations; we just get asked about them a lot! Please contact the organisations directly for retreat schedules and centre addresses.

Mother Sayamagyi

International Meditation Centres in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin

Led by Mother Sayamagyi. Taught for many years at U Ba Khin's centre in Rangoon. Now based in the UK but with centres around the world which she visits regularly.

S.N. Goenka

Vipassana Meditation Centres in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin

Goenkaji is probably the most famous of the directly authorized teachers and has had a tremendous impact in the revival of this form of meditation in India and elsewhere.

Other Teachers

The organisations above have many "Assistant Teachers" who lead particular courses and retreats. There are also several other teachers who were directly authorized by U Ba Khin who operate independently from these organisations, including Ruth Dennison in the USA.
